Stephanie’s work recalls what a good bedtime story did for us during childhood. Drawing on pop-culture memory to recast the familiar, her lush sensory worlds interweave narrative and the somatic, emphasizing the emptiness and malleability of place, and conjuring a mood that probes its limits with suspense and curiosity through a mix of media formats and a rich exploration of sound.
After receiving a degree in Film & Media from SUNY Purchase, she began her career as a technician for the iconic video art institution Electronic Art Intermix, where she worked with pioneering, experimental film and video artists and gained hands-on experience with early video formats.
Following this she created content, short docs and editorials for several New York magazines and brands, until recently swapping coastlines to pursue narrative and commercial work.
She is the co-founder Smudge Films, a production company dedicated to highlighting work from unconventional auteurs. Their most recent feature film, Clara’s Ghost, premiered at Sundance in 2017.
Stephanie has directed commercial content for clients including Sonos, Maybelline, Vice, Marc Jacobs, Revlon, Shinola, and Beyond Yoga. She most recently wrote and directed a short film, The Follower, which has entered the festival circuit, and is currently developing her first feature.
